Case Study: DSB Member Features
Project Summary
A Seattle company, Dock Street Brokers had released a new boat listings application we developed saving them thousands a year in service fees they were paying in renting an application. They wanted to take the functionality a step further by getting visitors to register and then emailing them updates on listings and other news.

After discussing the initial plan, Point B Web provided an idea to provide listings and category watch capabilities with automatic notifications of price changes as well as a newsletter individually tailored to the member's preferences. This automates the whole process and has been a great success.
DSB was getting a lot of traffic to the new website we created for them, but they now wanted to capture contact information from these visitors and email them newsletters and updates.
Setting up a member registration feature was only part of what we implemented for the DSB website. We also developed "watch" capabilities for registered members on categories and on specific listings so they could be notified of new listings in the categories of vessels they are interested in as well as any price or status changes on specific listings they choose to "watch". Significant enhancements in the admin features, allowed DSB to see what categories and listings members are watching - this allows them to make decisions on potential price changes based on interest that would greatly improve the chances of making the sale. Weekly newsletters are sent out and are customized to the members' preferences - making them much more relevant to the recipient.
The result was hundreds of member registrations in the first few months and more relevant and direct communication with the market, greatly improving the sales process. And our code is still being used 4 years later.
